Bally’s Corporation has confirmed that Bally’s Marquette will officially open its new land-based casino on March 13, marking the completion of a $26.2 million redevelopment that moves the property from its longtime riverboat location onto land.

The new facility replaces the historic Casino Queen Marquette, which operated on the Mississippi River for decades.

The transformation brings the gaming venue ashore for the first time and introduces a modern brick-and-mortar casino designed to offer an upgraded entertainment experience.

Robin Corbeil, general manager of Bally’s Marquette, described the transition as a significant milestone for both the team and the surrounding community.

“The official transformation to Bally’s Marquette represents a defining moment for our team, guests, and the community,” Corbeil said.

“With our move ashore complete, Bally’s Marquette delivers a modern gaming experience, expanded dining offerings, and a welcoming atmosphere that honours our riverfront roots while positioning us for the future.”

The newly constructed casino spans 31,280 square feet and features more than 400 slot machines and electronic table games.

Players will also find live dealer table games, including blackjack and Ultimate Texas Hold’em, as well as an on-site sportsbook.

Bally’s took ownership of the property after investment firm Standard General acquired the company in a $4.6 billion deal in 2024.

Prior to that, Standard General had purchased Queen Casino & Entertainment, the previous operator of the Marquette riverboat.

During the construction of the new venue, the riverboat casino continued to operate.

Once the new land-based casino opens, the riverboat will be retired and put up for sale.

The redevelopment also brings several new dining and drink options to the property.

Among the new venues is 1994 Sports Bar, a tribute to the riverboat casino’s original opening in December 1994, serving pub-style food alongside numerous TV screens for sports viewing. Guests can also visit Sidecar Bar, described as a cocktail lounge specialising in handcrafted drinks.

Additional options include Riverside Grill, offering quick American-style meals, and Benchfront Coffee, which will serve speciality coffee beverages.

According to Bally’s, the move inland created approximately 80 new jobs and strengthened the casino’s role in regional tourism and economic development.

The grand opening on March 13 will feature live music, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and additional entertainment for visitors.

One familiar landmark will remain in place: Pinky, the well-known pink elephant statue that has stood along the Mississippi River near the casino for nearly 20 years.

The roadside attraction was relocated to the property in 2009 after the demolition of the Pink Elephant Hotel & Supper Club.

Bally’s is hoping the upgraded facility will help improve the casino’s financial performance. In 2025, Casino Queen Marquette reported $19.9 million in gross gaming revenue, the lowest among Iowa’s 19 casinos.

By comparison, Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino generated more than $234.7 million in revenue during the same period, while total statewide casino revenue exceeded $1.67 billion.

With the new $26.2 million investment and expanded amenities, Bally’s is aiming to attract more visitors and increase its share of Iowa’s competitive gaming market.
